The Truck Driving program combines classroom instruction, yard training and road driving experience to prepare you for employment in the commercial trucking industry. You’ll learn how to operate commercial vehicles safely, follow transportation regulations and build the skills needed to prepare for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) exam.
You will learn how to:
- Practice defensive driving in a variety of road conditions
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Build skills in backing, maneuvering, coupling and uncoupling
- Operate commercial vehicles on interstates, secondary roads and in city traffic
- Understand the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), state and federal regulations related to truck driving
- Learn map reading, trip planning and recordkeeping
- Handle freight documents and cargo procedures
- Develop safety awareness for weather, road and driving conditions
- Prepare for the written and skills portions of the CDL exam
